Great news! There is no need to be so down that Halloween is on a Tuesday this year. Not in Dunfermline anyway. It is looking like it is going to be an exciting weekend, jam packed with musical treats for everyone.

Next Friday night, try and get yourselves to Coady’s bar in Dunfermline for the Scott Gilbert Band’s Halloween party. So far, along with the Dunfermline band made up of Scott Gilbert (vocals and guitar), Ryan Dow (guitar), Scott Anstruther (bass) and Cameron Jow (drums), there will also be fellow Dunfermline band Between the Lines, Gentlemen Jackals from Kirkcaldy and acoustic singer-song writer Jason Brand. The Dunfermline music scene is proving to be getting stronger and stronger by the week and be sure to expect a great time at this party. Quite a night to be proud of if you’re from the area. All of these local artists, under one roof, singing us into the Halloween weekend. Doors open at 8pm and entry is £5. Be sure to get there early. I can see this being a busy one.

And if that wasn’t enough local talent for all you Fifers, then here’s something else to get your fangs (sorry for the rubbish Halloween joke) sunk into. The Dunfermline Folk Club will be hosting the Dunfermline Folk Weekend from Friday the 27th of October to Sunday the 29th . This Folk Club has been meeting together every Wednesday (currently at the Monarch pub in Dunfermline) for the last 23 years to sing together and is full of a rage of people of different ages and cultures, all with two things in common; their kind-heartedness (and I can say that from first-hand experience) and their appreciation for folk music from all over the world. Many folk bands are said to be playing including 50 Shades of Blue and Sandy Strange both at the Thistle Tavern, as well as free music sessions on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Also, on the Friday, they will be holding a Ceilidh at the City Chambers in Dunfermline. I can only imagine that this will be a great weekend showing a wide range of skilful musicians demonstrating folk songs written from all over the globe, including in Dunfermline itself. For more information on the bands playing and tickets, have a look at the link below.

Who would have thought, the one weekend of the year traditionally meant for horror and disgust, would be a weekend for Dunfermline to show all of its talents? How ironic. It’s okay. I’m from Dunfermline so I’m allowed to say that sort of thing.

So now it’s just a matter of making up your mind. Will it be the ceilidh or the Halloween party?

Whatever you chose, I can be sure that you will not be disappointed with either. If you are from Dunfermline and this has not made you proud of your hometowns amazing culture and music scene, then I really don’t know what to say. If you are not from Dunfermline and this doesn’t make you want to go then, again, I am speechless!
