HELP SAVE SCOTLAND’S MUSIC VENUES
Scottish venue owners are reaching out to music fans in an attempt to save establishments under threat of closure due to the Scottish Governments current Planning Policy.

DF Concerts and Events, owner of King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, and numerous other Scottish venue owners such as the O2 Academy Glasgow and the O2 ABC are urging people within and out with the music industry to back Agent of Change: an organisation that defends venues from developers.
​
Currently, in Scotland, there is no protection for established buildings from development in their surrounding areas, unlike in England and Wales. As a result of this, developers are not responsible for any impact their developments may have on existing organisations.
​
In an attempt to avoid this, musicians and music fans have been joining forces to show their support to music establishments across the country.
​
A message on the Agent of Change website has been posted to nudge supporters to show their appreciation for these venues by emailing the Scottish Government about the Planning (Scotland) Bill presented in Parliament on December 4th and how it will affect Scottish culture to lose these premises at the hands of developers.

Many people, both in the music industry and out with it, have taken to social media in attempt to raise awareness.
​
Figures from UK Music show that independent music venues throughout the country generate £334 million for the Scottish economy. Scottish singer-songwriter, Lewis Capaldi, took to Twitter today in support of the campaign saying “Scotland’s much needed music venues are currently under threat and I’m backing the cause to change this.”
​
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, also commented on the bill, saying “It’s completely unfair that a music venue, which may have existed in an area for decades, should have to incur the cost of a new neighbour moving in, which can often result in closure.”
​
The deadline for public opinions on the bill is Friday, February 2.
